Kandor Co. · Treatment economics

Profit Per Hour

Revenue per hour is a vanity number. This works out what each treatment actually leaves you after consumables, room cost and the fixed bills, across every session the price includes rather than just the first.

Your fixed costs

Set these once. They get apportioned across every treatment below.

Overheads carried by every client

£13.75

Room share plus fixed costs. This comes out of every treatment before you've earned a penny.

Fixed costs per working day

£11.52

Your treatments

Example figures are loaded so you can see how it works. Overwrite them with yours. Minutes must include setup, cleaning down and admin, not just needle time. Sessions means how many appointments the price covers.

Reading it honestly

  • Minutes per session must include everything. Setup, consultation, cleaning down, notes, the aftercare brief, rebooking. A 90 minute treatment is rarely a 90 minute slot.
  • Sessions is where most people get it wrong. If an areola price covers two appointments, the second is time you have already been paid for. SPMU with a free top up is the same trap.
  • A high price is not a high earner. SPMU brows at £350 look better than scar camouflage at £300 until you count the top up session.
  • Your real hourly rate has to cover unpaid time too: enquiries, marketing, travel, ordering, accounts. For most solo practitioners that is close to a third of the working week, so treat the per hour figure as a ceiling rather than a wage.
  • Low per hour is not automatically bad. Quick treatments fill a diary and bring people through the door. Specialist treatments earn more per hour but take six to twelve months to build demand. The viable business is usually a mix.
  • Injectables are included because the maths is different there. Product and prescriber costs are far higher, but so is the per hour figure, which is exactly why so many practitioners add them. Put your own toxin, filler and prescriber costs in rather than trusting the examples.

If the numbers were uncomfortable

Most people find at least one treatment earning far less than they assumed. Raising the price is usually the fix, not dropping the treatment. I cover pricing, positioning and how to fill a diary on almost nothing in Set Up & Get Booked.

H2: Why your most popular treatment might be your worst earner

A £350 PMU brow treatment looks better than a £300 scar camouflage session. Until you count the top-up.

If your brow price includes a free six-week perfecting session, you're not doing three hours of work for £350. You're doing four and a half hours for £350 — and that's before you've cleaned down, written your notes or answered six messages about aftercare.

That single factor — how many appointments the price covers — is the most common reason a beauty business feels busy and broke at the same time. No other pricing calculator accounts for it. This one is built around it.

H2: What it works out

  • Profit per treatment, after consumables, room cost and your share of fixed bills

  • Profit per hour, across every session the price covers

  • Your treatments ranked, best earner to worst

  • Overheads carried by every client — the number that comes out before you've earned anything

  • A realistic annual figure based on the clients you actually see, not capacity

H2: What you'll need

Four numbers, and you probably know them already:

  1. Your room cost per day — £0 if you work from home

  2. How many clients you see on a typical day

  3. Your monthly fixed costs — insurance, local authority registration, booking software, phone, accountant

  4. How many clients you realistically see per month

Then, for each treatment: the price, the minutes including setup and cleaning down, how many sessions the price covers, and what the consumables cost you.

H2: Frequently asked questions

How do I work out profit per hour for a beauty treatment? Take the price, subtract consumables, subtract your share of room and fixed costs, then divide by the total time across every session the price covers — including setup, cleaning down and admin. The calculator does all of it.

Is this calculator free? Yes. No sign-up, no email required, nothing stored. Your figures stay in your browser and are not sent anywhere.

Does it work for PMU and paramedical treatments? That's what it was built for. It handles prices that cover multiple sessions, which is where most pricing tools fall over — a PMU brow price with a free top-up, or an areola price covering two appointments.

What should I include in "minutes per session"? Everything. Setup, consultation, the treatment, cleaning down, writing your notes, the aftercare brief and rebooking. A 90-minute treatment is almost never a 90-minute slot, and pricing as though it is costs you money every single day.

What's a good profit per hour for a beauty treatment? There's no universal figure, but remember the number is a ceiling, not a wage. It has to cover unpaid time too — enquiries, marketing, travel, ordering, accounts. For most solo practitioners that's roughly a third of the working week.

Should I drop my low-earning treatments? Not automatically. Quick treatments fill a diary and bring new people through the door; specialist treatments earn more per hour but take six to twelve months to build demand. Most viable businesses run a mix. Use the figure to decide what to raise, not just what to cut.

Is it UK-specific? Yes. Pounds, UK costs, and built around how UK beauty and PMU businesses actually operate.

Do I need to download anything? No. It runs in your browser on any device.
